Kari's Law Compliance and On-site Notifications of 911 calls

Fort Lauderdale, FL (January 29, 2020): Metropolis and its partners are working tirelessly to help hundreds of customers comply with Kari's Law before the deadline of February 16th, 2020. Kari's Law is named after Kari Hunt Dunn, who was murdered in her hotel room in 2013 after multiple failed attempts by her nine-year-old daughter to dial 9-1-1. Medical evidence indicated that if her daughter had reached emergency responders, Kari would have survived the attack. Why did the call fail? Her daughter needed to dial 9-911 from the hotel room but that is not what children are taught.

911 Notifications:

In addition to disallowing prefixes when calling 911, the law's intent is that designated personnel are notified in the event of an emergency so that assistance is promptly sent where it is needed. Metropolis' products can notify users of 911 calls via email, SMS/text message and screen pops. The law is designed to ensure that anyone in a hotel or business can reach emergency services and that critical location data is provided with that call.

February 16, 2020 Compliance Date:

The Metropolis team and its valued partners are working to help companies, who fear being out of compliance, comply by the deadline of February 16th, 2020. OfficeWatch SL, ProfitWatch SL and XT products allow customers to add specific location of all employee and hotel guest phones so that the SMS/text/email/screen pop notification show the exact location and even the extension and name of the person dialing the emergency call.

Call Tracking and Reporting:

Along with the 911 notifications, Metropolis products provide robust call reporting capabilities and notifications whenever calls exceed a certain threshold, such as long duration or costly calls. They are also able to improve security with toll fraud alerts in the event customer's phone system is compromised or suspicious call activity is detected.
